Welcome all you new comers and old friends alike. I am Rinji, and I will be acting as your administrator for this forum! I created this forum to spread the joy of roleplaying to my friends, and any possible newcomers that stumbled upon it. I love to roleplay and I love to meet new people, so this works quite well in doing both. I will say that I want to keep this place a safe environment for those who wish to enjoy themselves, and I also want this to be a clean website with no hateful arguments or unnecessarily explicit content. Those things can be found elsewhere, it is the internet, after all. Before I go into the roleplaying aspect, I would like to lay down some rules of conduct here on Cold Ember. Anyone caught breaking these rules will be given a warning or banned permanently, depending on the severity of their misconduct. These rules extend to every forum on this message board, and are universal throughout. Please read carefully.
Rules
Forum
No pornographic or super violent material is to be posted in any threads of this site. This will result in immediate banning.
No Flooding of any kind, unless it is a story or guide that requires multiple posts to complete.
Do not push the limits of these rules. Even if you are only bending them to see how far you can go (posting censored porn pictures, or posting unrelated topics) then you are sadly mistaken and the moderators have ever right to warn you, or ban you depending on what transpires.
Do not post links or advertisements to this site unless given permission, if that is all you came here for then you will be banned on the spot with no warnings.
Creating a new RPG is simple, just tell a moderator/admin that you would like to create a new RPG and we will be happy to set up a space for you in the forum. It is up to you to build the content yourself or have your own help set up for it if need be. If any further assistance is needed, do not hesitate to ask either I or my staff for help.
For any other assistance, please message the forum staff. We are here to help you and keep your visits here fun and active.
Role-Playing
You are not the most powerful being in the universe, and you can be defeated. Your character is not immortal nor is your character invincible. God Modding and saying nothing effects your character will not be tolerated and characters created with this idea in mind will be deleted if not changed.
Accept that each forum has different rules concerning characters, and be sure to change your characters if you wish for them to be accepted. Unaccepted characters are not allowed to join an RPG unless given permission by the moderator of that Roleplaying Game.
Bumping your character up or flooding threads is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught multi-posting for no good reason will be given a warning, and banned if they persist.
Players that are asked to leave a thread by moderators or game masters are to do so immediately and without argument. Flooding a thread with an argument will result in immediate reprimanding. If there is more to be said, take the conversation to an Out Of Character (OOC) thread so that the RPG can continue without interruption.
No controlling, changing, or otherwise tampering with characters that are not yours unless you have permission from their creator. This includes killing them in a story, changing their profile, or controlling their movements or dialog in an RP thread.
Chatroom
Be civil to one another! If there is any trolling, bullying, or otherwise unscrupulous behavior in the chatroom, you will be kicked or banned depending on the severity of your actions.
No links to porn sites or videos/pictures of nudity and/or sexual content. This is an instant bannable offense.
No Spamming! This includes typing one word of a sentence at a time to fill up the entire chat. This is only acceptable if attempting to hide offensive or rule-breaking material, and if this is overused, there will be consequences.
There will be no disrespect between members, but this is especially true when an admin or chat mod is doing his or her job in kicking or banning someone for breaking the rules. If there are any disrespectful comments to our staff, they have every right to take administrative action. When they tell you to stop something, it would probably be in your best interest to stop. You can always move to private message away from the public eye.
If there are any blatantly racist or extremely offensive comments directed at a member, you will be warned the first time. If this continues you will be banned for an extended period of time.
Take personal matters to the Private Message, and do not make others uncomfortable with extended stories of your real life matters if someone is uncomfortable in knowing these things. This place is a forum for roleplaying and fun topics. If you persist in bringing the site down with your problems there can be consequences. We all have issues, and there are those who will listen, but please keep it within reason.
This is a place of fun and upbeat attitudes, and we like to keep it that way. If you blatantly try to disturb that, all of the staff are obligated to take action. Keep the fun in this site and everyone at least try to get along, if for no other reason than to keep everyone as happy as we can.
Game Play
The main objective of the entire game is to have fun. There is no real WINNING the game, and even if there was, that should not be what you constantly strive for. The point of making a great game is to do what you can to conquer the objective at hand. The main storyline is not there for you to beat it in a matter of a week, or even a year for that matter. There will be a universal strive to conquer each quest, and get stronger, and as you get stronger, you'll probably want to start up on the main storyline objectives, which is great! Just remember, it's not the goal that counts, it's the journey. In an RPG, the journey is the greatest gem and the prime difference that you will make. Please, try and remember that.
Normally, there are around 4-5 characters in each thread. There is one player or Game Master (GM) who brings about the objectives and controls the NPC's while the characters make their own decisions about how to deal with these happenings. It is not up to the Game Master what the characters do in a situation, it is up to them to decipher the consequences of these actions and determine what happens next. The Game Master controls the Non-Player Characters (NPC) in the adventure, pretty much meaning being the GM is much harder than just being a character, so remember to choose your GM's carefully.
It is the Game Master's job to be fair, stern, challenging, and fun all at the same time. Making an impossible quest to put your players on is irresponsible and not funny. If this occurs, then your game will be taken over by a different GM and if this is your first offense, you will be warned. It's not funny, and it's a deliberate waste of your players' time.
During challenges in the game, such as combat or struggles of any kind are to be determined by the GM. Tasks such as striking an enemy or creating a sword through metal smithing are to be determined however you determine things. Simple tasks can be a given. If they strike at a small underling on his way over, you can just say yes, you strike the underling. Pulling off a tricky sword maneuver against a fighter will take some more deliberation. You can use dice for example: If it's a hard enough task, just say "You'll need higher than a 12." and roll a 20-side. The way you determine it is up to you if you are given the task of GMing, just make sure it is simple, and has a fair ratio of pass or fail depending on what you are trying to decide.
This is all speculation, though. If you create a roleplaying game all your own, you can run it as you want, so long as you and yours are having fun. If there is a problem between your players or all of you, then please try to fix it in house instead of going straight for a forum admin or moderator, because once we get involved, we determine how the situation is fixed. The main objective is to have a clean, and rich roleplaying experience, and we don't like when egos get in the way or a key player is being immature or slow on purpose. It's your show once you decide to become the GM, so keeping the peace is entirely on you, within reason.
You may notice that the word "fun" has been passed around more than once, because that's really what it boils down to. If you're not having fun and you feel that you have done your best to be civil and courteous, then please bring your case to a moderator and we'll see if we can sort it out for you. Feel free to bring this to our attention, even if you think it's a somewhat small matter. We are here to help you, and keep things as pleasant as we can.
So, to cap it all off, if you have any questions of any kind, please message anyone on the staff, and we'll answer as best we can. If not, thank you for reading this sizable post, and go on to whatever game you wish to play. I'll be around. Chow!
